Boston Tech Week: Complete Guide to Events, Neighborhoods and What Comes Next
Presented by the venture firm a16z, Boston Tech Week is a citywide, decentralized series of independently hosted tech events. The inaugural edition ran May 26 to 31, 2026, and packed more than 570 events into six days across Cambridge, Kendall Square, the Seaport District and Back Bay.
Unlike a single conference, there is no main venue and no unified agenda. Each event is run by its own host, from a16z and HubSpot to MIT.nano and small local groups. If you are new to this format, our guide on what a Tech Week is explains how the model works across cities. This article covers how Boston’s first week went, where events happened, how to get around, and what the calendar looks like for other Boston tech events through the rest of the year.
What Is Boston Tech Week?
Boston Tech Week works like an unconference. a16z curates the calendar and brand, but every session, from a biotech summit to a mini golf networking mixer, is planned and hosted independently. There is no master pass. You apply to each event through the official calendar, and the host approves attendees directly.
Official tracks for 2026 included AI Infra, Hackathons, Bio and Health, Students, Engineers, Founders, Deep Tech and Robotics, and Investors. That mix reflects Boston’s actual strengths rather than a generic tech agenda, which is why the week leaned so heavily into biotech, healthtech and university research.
How Boston Tech Week Started
Boston debuted as one of four Tech Week cities in 2026, alongside New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. More than 80 founding hosts backed the first edition, including a16z, Anthropic, HubSpot, Klaviyo, IBM, WHOOP, Pillar VC, Founder Collective, MassRobotics and The Engine, built by MIT.
The final count reached more than 570 events, and some sources tracking the calendar in real time listed over 670 as more hosts joined in the final days. That kind of late growth is normal for Tech Week cities, since anyone can add an event right up until the week starts.

Boston Tech Week 2026 Recap: Highlights by Day
The week ran Tuesday, May 26 through Sunday, May 31, 2026. Here is a sample of what made it distinct.
Tuesday, May 26. The week opened with an early morning challenge at Tatte Bakery in Kendall Square, where SourceHound had participants compete to earn $1,000 with its product. Later that afternoon, FoundersX Ventures ran an AI x Deep Tech talk in Harvard Square covering chip design, space technology and embodied AI.
Wednesday, May 27. Google for Startups hosted an invite only Healthcare and Life Sciences Summit in Cambridge. In the evening, Silicon Valley Bank and DLA Piper combined fintech talk with mini golf in Back Bay under the name AI Drives Fintech to the Green.
Thursday, May 28. Fenwick and NEWISE ran a wellness focused morning session for women in biotech, and Adobe hosted a talk on generative engine optimization and AI search discoverability in Cambridge.
Friday, May 29. ProductCamp Boston held its usual breakfast networking event, and Travelbay closed out the evening with an Afrobeats party for more than 250 founders and tech leaders downtown.
Saturday, May 30. Several hackathons ran in parallel, including an AI x Bio Hackathon hosted by Absentia Labs and Ginkgo Bioworks, plus a Startup Yacht Party on Boston Harbor hosted by Cloudflare and TNT.
Sunday, May 31. The week closed with the Foundation for Agentic Networks’ daylong event on agentic AI, and a fireside discussion on the future of AI and music hosted by Motif and Joker Deck Ventures.
Anchor Events Worth Knowing
A few sessions stood out as the ones insiders planned their week around, including Becoming AI-First in 2026 at Workbar in Back Bay, Titans of Boston Tech at Back Bay, Ringing in the Inaugural Boston AI Tech Week hosted by IBM and Red Hat in the Seaport District, and Building in Boston featuring HubSpot co-founder Brian Halligan.
Where Boston Tech Week Happens
The week spread across nine neighborhoods, with no single hub:
- Cambridge and Kendall Square. MIT.nano, Google for Startups and most deep tech and AI infra sessions.
- Back Bay. Workbar hosted several anchor events, and this area carried a heavy share of evening mixers.
- Seaport District. MedTech AI Summit and several fintech and legal panels.
- Downtown and Beacon Hill. Morning orientation events, including TechWalk.
- Somerville. Home to Greentown Labs, which hosted the Startup Science Fair.
- Chinatown and Brookline. Smaller, more social gatherings.
- Charlestown. Home to Pickle Robot’s Physical AI demo.
Getting Around: The T and Boston Tech Week
Because events are scattered across the city, transit planning matters. The MBTA, locally called the T, connects most venue clusters:
- Red Line links Cambridge and Kendall Square to South Station and downtown.
- Silver Line serves the Seaport District and runs free from Logan Airport.
- Green Line covers Back Bay, Copley and Boylston, where many evening events land.
- Bluebikes works well for short hops across the Longfellow or Mass Ave bridges.
A CharlieCard is faster than tapping a credit card at the fare gate each time, and the MBTA Go or Transit apps give more reliable arrival times than platform signs.

Registration and Attrition
Events register through Partiful, listed on the official calendar. There is no umbrella pass. A useful pattern from Boston and other Tech Week cities: hosts typically plan around 50 to 70 percent attrition, since attendees stack two or three events a day and many RSVPs never show. That means applying to more events than you plan to attend, and checking back the morning of an event for last minute openings, often pays off.
Other Boston Tech Events
Boston Tech Week is not the only citywide gathering. A few others fill the rest of the calendar:
- Startup Boston Week. Runs each September, most recently September 8 to 12, 2025, at Suffolk University, with more than 100 free sessions for founders at every stage.
- Tough Tech Week. Hosted by The Engine, this runs in Cambridge and Boston, most recently on October 27, 2025, and focuses on climate tech, life sciences and hard tech ventures.
- Boston hackathons. MIT, Harvard and local groups run hackathons throughout the year outside Tech Week, covering everything from healthcare AI to fintech.
If you want a Northeast comparison, NYC Tech Week runs right after Boston’s and leans more toward fintech and media. Boston Tech Week 2027: What to Expect
As of late September 2026, a16z has not announced 2027 dates for Boston. Based on the 2026 pattern, expect the announcement in early spring, with the event itself likely landing in late May, following the same slot used for the debut year. Event submissions for future editions open through tech-week.com, and hosts are reviewed before being added to the calendar.
How to Plan Your Week
- Pick your track first. Filter by Bio and Health, Deep Tech and Robotics, or AI Infra based on your work.
- Anchor each day. Choose two or three must attend events and build the rest around them.
- Budget travel time. A Charlestown event followed by a Cambridge one can eat an hour in weekday traffic.
- Apply broadly. High attrition means a full event today may open up tomorrow.
- Leave one window open per day. The best conversations often happen at events you hear about a few hours before they start.
